A little higher than the Verga – Kalamata made a sport (paragliding), which has existed since the mid 80s. But developed rapidly all over the world because of the ease of learning, low cost, safety and job satisfaction.
Especially in Greece and more specifically to Rod – Kalamata you can enjoy it because it is ideal for the sport, as the climatic and soil conditions favorable.
Paragliding Parapente or otherwise from the French name (para-by parachute and parachute = pente = slope), carries an ancient human desire: the free flight. It gives the opportunity for anyone to fly like a bird and learn magical emotions.
As shows the Greek name, is a “special” parachute, which can take off from a slope regardless of the amount (if indeed the weather permits) and do not require any kind of machine. H is off the ground, the pilot run on a slope and detaches from it. The flight was made with the help of gravity, air and the man who handles it.
As it is volatile device, since the take-off and after the parapente is natural to lose height because of gravity. But the shape and structure (like air wing), generates lift and travels forward, while losing altitude.
O ratio of descent (ie measures of how much it loses per minute) varies depending on the type, construction, weather conditions and the experience that he uses it. It is constructed to exploit the wind and currents in order to stay as long as possible in the air.
In this way, the flight may take a few minutes to several hours, depending on circumstances and mood. The parapente weighs from 10 to 15 pounds, easily gathered in a few minutes by one person, and put in a bag carried on the back.
– What differs from a normal parapente parachute?
The second is usually used when jumping from one plane (say “usually” because it can be used in the extreme sport of Base Jumping) and rescue equipment are clean. It is built to withstand the sudden opening of the air and the resulting jolt. The shape of today is rectangular and has limited maneuverability.
The parapente, on the other hand, is a parachute detaches from the ground being already open. The operator has the option to cancel the takeoff without any effect, if wanted. It is thus made (Figure air wing) to travel forward and lose altitude. It has much greater power handling, and the operator can direct exactly where you want. It is larger in size and volume, skipping ropes thinner (slings).

Depending on performance, the parachutes are divided into educational, touring and racing. The higher the class the more knowledge and experience required. Beginners are not good test parachutes that exceed their abilities.
